His family in the area go back at least seven generations, to and beyond the "Brookes Brothers" family in Rhyl and he has worked in the NHS for a decade - previously at Glan Clwyd Hospital and currently as a GP, holding a clinical lead role for dementia. He chose to return from University in Cambridge to North Wales for his junior doctor training and was first elected as a Prestatyn Councillor in 2004.
